The Basic Mountain Biking Skills You Should Know Before Starting

In truth you can’t immediately plan for a mountain biking trip just because of having some skills in road biking. There is undoubtedly a big difference between road biking and mountain biking. Riding over the flat surface may not provide you the same kind of skills for mountain biking. To ride on the mountain trails you have to pass lots of obstacles of the terrain while sometimes you have to descend and ascend by judging the type of the terrains. So you have to know where and when you should change the gears and how you should use the brakes.

 

So to help the unskilled or newbie mountain bikers we have some advice what can help to grow up your mountain biking skills.

 

Use The Brakes Appropriately

It is difficult to apply the same speeds like a road bike on mountain trails, because you have to face the holes, gravels, rocks and muds. Simply when you ride over the gravels, muds and small size rocks, you have to keep the bike at a slower speed. But when you ride the bike at a medium or high speed, you must slow down when you face big holes. In this case you should appropriately use the rear brake with a minimal use of the front brake.

 

But when you go downhill, you have to change the tricks. Because this time the front wheel going to carry more weight than the rear wheel. In this case you may apply the front brake, but not as much. Because you have to technically depend on the rear brake more than the front brake. But pushing it hard can be a reason for skidding, so, move your body slightly back and use some pressure over the rear wheel. It increases braking power and allows you to use the rear brake appropriately.

 

Moreover, when you do an immediate corner, must use some braking power to slow down the bike. It will save you from the risks.

 

Stay Calm During Uphill Ride

Don’t be aggressive during uphill ride, rather, be tricky and keep paddling comfortably. When you climb it is better to keep the bike in low gear or use it by your preference after understanding the condition of the terrain or how steep the hill is. I think after seeing the condition of the hill you will be able to understand what number of the gear you should use. In this case the rear wheel takes most of the pressure. So if you apply more pressure on the rear wheel by standing, then you can lose the control. Literally the way the rear wheel creates traction, that would be enough to stay on uphill ride. So you rather sit on the saddle, lean slightly and keep up paddling.

 

Be Careful During Downhill Ride

It may look easy to enjoy a downhill ride, but it includes some risks. So don’t just let your bike go down during descending. Apply some tricks and understand the condition of terrains. Because racing down over a bumpy terrain never easier.  In this case, of course you should let the suspension to absorb the force of the bumps and vibrations while you shouldn’t sit on the saddle. Because the force of the bumps would bring some disadvantages for your body. So you should lose your body from the saddle and stand on the paddle as if the remaining force of the bumps can’t hit on your body parts. In this situation the legs and knees can be used to simply absorb all the remaining forces of the bumps.

Mountain biking is a fun and adventurous ride, but you should always be careful about this amazing ride. If you lose the attention during your paddling, then you can fall in a little or bigger accident. Because the surface of the terrain includes lots of obstacles, so stay focused what comes in front and of course don’t forget to wear all biking safety accessories.
